Why is the Tri-Point Storm different?
The Tri-Point Storm will always compete in unweighted leagues. At younger ages before you child is able to compete at our grade based levels we aim to provide the best player development and competitive atmosphere against the areas best youth teams that have more realistic and reasonable weight limits that will hopefully allow your child to remain playing on age level with his own peer group.
By playing in a progressively unweighted environment this means that as long as a scholar athlete meets the grade and age requirements, they can play any position they are good enough to play. In many weighted leagues a student athlete might be 175 pounds at the 7th grade level and only be allowed to be a down lineman (this is usually referred to as a red-stripe). In these league the player is never allowed to be a ball carrier; they can't run the ball as a fullback or catch the ball as a tight end - they can't even pick up a fumble as a defensive tackle and try to score a touchdown. On the Frederick Storm players can do all of these things if they are good enough.
We at the Tri-Point Storm believe this approach will help prepare student athletes for football beyond traditional youth football, because your stocky 5 foot linemen might grow into a tall slender wide receiver and we would rather see your student athlete develop a skill set they are disallowed to develop during the fall season in a more tradition youth league.
Being unweighted also means some of our bigger student athletes are able to play on age level since they aren't weighted out. This only will help those players grow and succeed and standout among there peers. No one wants to see a 10 year old being forced to battle in the trenches with 13 and 14 year olds.
The league models that the Tri-Point Storm will play in will also take stress off the organization from having to run home games and allows them to concentrate on what is truly important: developing student athletes into better football players and young men. Games will be held at neutral sites across the region. Most games are held at some of the most exclusive private high schools in the greater DMV.
Why should my student athlete play for the Tri-Point Storm:
The benefits are numerous. Our desire is to provide unprecedented exposure for youth football players to the high schools that they will attend in the future. We want to help each player be the best football player and student athlete that they can possibly be.
Also, the exposure during the summer season will be phenomenal for those selected to the Tri-Point Storm. In addition, the training that we provide during those months will allow players to maximize their conditioning and skill sets. We provide an outlet that allows serious football players to focus on football year around, the same way elite, basketball, soccer, and lacrosse players do. Student athletes will get more exposure, elite training, and enjoy the experience of a lifetime.
What is the age group for participation with the Tri-Point Storm?
We are the only Charter member of the Metro Maryland Football Alliance in Frederick, Carroll, or Washington County, as well as Pennsylvania and West Virginia and this allows us more flexibility than any youth tackle program in the region.
As a Charter Member of the Select Elite Championship Football League, after the March 18th Merger with Mid Maryland Youth Football and Cheer League (MMYFCL) the Frederick Storm also became members of the MMYFCL. Because we were founding members of the Metro Maryland Football Alliance this allows us to always play in the Gridiron Football League, Tackle University, and Flight University in the Spring.
Mid Maryland Select Elite Championship Divisions
These age groups are based on grade level and is open to scholar athletes from 5th through 8th grade. No 9th graders are allowed in the contact league. These teams will be roster-ed from players invited back from previous seasons and players who attend a tryout/assessment period Feburary-March of 2019.

Flight University DivisionsThese age groups are based on grade level and is open to scholar athletes from 5th through 10th grade. Eligibility Requirements Spring Season 2019:
NOTE: The Tri-Point Storm is designed to place the student athlete in a League that is most suited for his ability and size. There are 13 year old 8th graders and 15 year old 8th graders with late birthdays. The Tri-Point Storm's goal is to find the right fit for each athlete to help them develop. The Eligibility requirements below are designed to find that perfect fit. Please pay close attention to the nuances and if you have any questions please visit our Facebook page or visit our Contact Us section here at the site.
Age Requirements Fall Season 2018:
Each Football Player must be certified by MMFL each year to be eligible to participate in official league play.
Certification will consist of verification of age by date of birth and certification of grade for the division of play the player will be participating during the season.
Age Certification is required by the Gridiron Football League only but players may not be in the 9th grade and play at the 13U division Age and Grade Verification
Age verification will be accomplished by presenting to MMFL officials at the certification a current Maryland MVA picture ID or an official MMFL League-issued ID card. An out-of-state ID card is permitted for any player who currently resides out of state (i.e., Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or Delaware). A Military Dependent ID card (United States Uniformed Services Identification Card) is also an acceptable form of certification. Any player not eligible for a state-issued ID card may obtain an official league- issued MMFL ID card for a fee determined each year and on specific dates and locations set each year by the Board of Directors. The league will determine the circumstances that qualify each player for a league ID.
We must certify age and grade in order to play.
MD State issued ID Cards are acceptable as long as they are current.
If you do not have a Maryland State ID for your child a current military ID or Passport will be accepted
If you do not have a Maryland State ID for your child we will also accept current Passports
Birth Certificates and your child's latest report card are also required
NO other forms of ID will be needed if the MD State ID is presented. We repeat, if an athlete has a MD State ID, NO OTHER FORM of identification will be necessary. To obtain a Maryland State ID you can take your child’s birth certificate or passport to the DMV. Instructions can be found HERE
For Spring 2019 Season the Tri-Point Storm requires a copy of one of the athlete's latest report cards from the 2018-19 school year, with the most recent one being the preference. All athletes must be in good academic standing. Athletes must be in the 5th - 8th Grade to play.
Academics is a cornerstone of Tri-Point Storm Football. Our goal is to prepare your student athlete to play football at the next levels. Whether that be at a Junior Varsity or Varsity program in a public high school, an elite private high school program, or even a collegiate NCAA program, their skill and talent will mean nothing if they cannot remain in good academic standing. Most private high schools within the DMV and Mid-Atlantic region are looking for exceptional football players who are also exceptional students. Very few of these same schools will risk scholarship investment on a sub-par student.
Student Athlete Oath of Academic Good Standing (unavailable)
All student athletes will be required to read and sign the Oath of Academic Good Standing. This Oath guarantees that the student athlere understands the importance of remaining in good academic standing and that if he fails to do so it could lead to suspension from practice or play until that student athlete becomes academically eligible again.
Liability Waiver Forms
Every player must have a parent sign a Liability Waiver form. Athletes can NOT play without a liability waiver form. The waiver form releases the Tri-Point Storm from ANY liability due to injuries related to Frederick Storm participation.
Medical Physical Forms
It is recommended that every student athlete have a Medical Physical Form completed by a doctor for the spring and fall 2018 seasons. There is no need to have two physicals within a 365 calendar day period. For example, if your student athlete played football in the fall of the 2017 season (any league) and had a physical performed for the fall season then the physical form used for that season can be used for the upcoming spring season as well. The form must be dated within 365 days of the first day of the season, so any student athlete who had a physical for this past fall season can use that form for the Spring 2018 season as well.
- Physical forms can be found (under construction)
- Physical forms must be filled out with insurance information, etc.
- If there is a prior doctor’s authorization within the time frame, attach it to the form.
Concussions
All coaches, trainers, and team moms will have completed USA Football's High School Tackle Certification within the last 365 days. This certification has been created by the NFHS and USA Football and includes:- Blocking, Tackling & Equipment Fitting
- Concussion in Sports
- Heat Illness Prevention
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest
A certificate of completion must be submitted to the Frederick Storm Director of Football Operations before any coach will be allowed to participate in any practice, training session, or competition.
In the event that your student athlete reports or shows signs of a concussion during either a practice, training session, or competition, your student athlete will be removed from the event and given the proper evaluation. Only after your student athlete passes all tests and shows no signs of a concussion, will they be able to return to the ongoing practice, training session, or competition.
If your student athlete does show signs of a possible concussion they will be removed from the practice, training session, or competition and monitored until they are able to be taken to a medical facility. Your student athlete will not be permitted to return to any activities until cleared by a physician.
